Dream Room Breakdown

Have you ever come up with a brilliantly original idea just to realize that it's really not all that original? Happens to me all the time. Certain rooms that I find in magazines or online just nestle into my psyche and influence the way I put certain rooms together. Such is the case with the perfect room below, which you might remember from this post.

I love its simplicity, airiness, and mix of earthy, fresh, and vintage accents. It's casual and inviting but uncluttered and well-ordered. If I could be a room, this would be it.

Ok, back to the point on not being original. This room has been stashed away in my files for about a year, and just the other day I realized that many elements I have been accumulating and putting into an inspiration board for a room are almost all influenced by or overtly taken from this room.
See?
One of my favorite features in magazines and blogs are the "get the look" articles. I always learn about new sources, and get great ideas about putting my own rooms together. And I love being surprised by the stores represented especially ones that I've given up on or written off as not my style.

So, in case you're interested in my findings for the room above, here's the breakdown clockwise starting with the chalkboard crates:

And if you're interested in learning more about how to put together a room from an inspiration photo, you can check out my post for Apartment Therapy.

Happy weekend all! I'm hoping mine is full of some much needed sleep!

  2. Spot on. I believe that we are heavily influenced by images that we see and often recreate, without even realizing it, these images in our houses. I did that recently when I painted my french door black and later original picture that I think influenced me to do it.

That dining room is so fabulous -- what a great idea for storage if your dining area is attached to the kitchen! Also, I love the resource list with the huge label holders and the stuff from Brook Farm -- one of my favorite online stores!

  5. The suspension light is a lovely touch to the room, it ties in well with the dark stone kitchenware. Nice little bit of luxury homeware

    1. I agree. I also loved how she used natural plants and the green and black combination to make it so beautiful.

  9. I love this kind of home design. It's indeed very simple yet very elegant. The idea of using not so huge furniture is also perfect. It made the entire room spacious and compelling.

  10. It does not really matter to me whether the idea I had was original or not for as long as I will be able to create an enticing room design. The photo above really looks nice. I love the simplicity of the design. The floor is so compelling as well along with simple and minimalist interior design.
